A new brand for Maya Kalaria; a writer, poet and speaker from Bristol. Maya is also a qualified hypnotherapist and mental health practitioner, and speaks powerfully on issues such as grief, feminism, race and colonialism.
It was important for me to come up with a brand design that evoked Maya's spiritual and thoughtful aspect to her work, whilst capturing the essence of her fiery Indian roots. Maya's interest in astrology also played a part in some of the visual branding elements.
I used a brush pen to create the face of the logo, which incorporates a subtle 'M' into the nose and eyebrow, making it unique and personal to Maya.
Keeping in line with the hand-rendered theme, using brush strokes within the design elements was an fun way to bring in some energy. Paired with a fiery colour palette, the finished effect is self-assured and warm - and a perfect tone for Maya to launch her new brand out to the world with.
